Australia’s Business Skills Migrant Program enables and encourages flourishing business people to use their proven business skills and attributes to develop business activity and settle in Australia. Business migrants should have powerful business background of:
- growing international markets
- Transferring capital and making investments
- maintaining employment
- Exporting Australian goods and services
- Introducing innovative technology
- Producing substitute products or goods that would otherwise be imported, and
- Growing competitiveness within sectors of the Australian economy.
The Business Skills Migration program is divided as sponsored and unsponsored classes and falls in to following categories.
- Business Talent: for high-caliber business people who hold sponsorship from a state or territory government.
- Business Owner: for owners or part-owners of a business.
- Senior Executive: for senior executives of a major business.
- Investment: for investors/business people willing to invest in Australia.
BUSINESS SKILLS UNSPONSORED PROGRAM If the applicant is applying for the subclass 160, 161 and 162 visas mentioned below which does not require any sponsorship by the state or territory government he/she must meet the following common criteria.
- Must be under 45 years of age at the time of application.
- Have vocational English language ability for running a business in Australia.
- Business / investment commitment in Australia.
- No adverse business history.
- Undergo medical checkups.
Business Owner Subclass 160
For applying this subclass visa, in addition to above criteria the applicant must meet the following business attributes for 2 years out of the last 4 years before the lodgment of the application.
- Net assets of a business should be at least $ 200,000.
- Minimum of 10% ownership interest in business.
- Minimum Annual turnover of $ 500,000.
- Minimum business & personal assets should be of $ 500,000.
Senior Executive Subclass 161
For applying this subclass visa, in addition to the above criteria the applicant must meet the following attributes for 2 years out of the last 4 years before the lodgment of the application.
- Must be employed in one of the top 3 levels of management of a major business.
- Must show an overall successful business career.
- Show significant business and personal assets of at least $ A 500,000.
- Be responsible for strategic policy development in the business.
Investor Subclass 162 For applying this subclass visa, in addition to the above common criteria the applicant must meet the following business attributes before the lodgment of the application.
- Show successful investment or business activity.
- Show at least 3 years experience in the direct involvement in managing an eligible investment.
- Show direct involvement in investments value of at least $ A 1.5 million.
- For the 2 fiscal years before your are applying the net value of assets should be at least
$ A2.25 million BUSINESS SKILLS SPONSORED PROGRAM Business talent subclass 132 For applying this visa, the applicant must meet the following pre-requisites before the lodgment of the application.
- Age must be under 55 years.
- Show overall success in business career.
- Show assets in business of at least $ 400,000 in 2 years out of last 4 fiscal years.
- Interest of ownership in the business should be at least 10 %.
- Show minimum annual turnover of $ 3 million in 2 years out of last 4 fiscal years.
- Show commitment to engage a business in Australia.
- Show sponsorship by a territory or state government.
- No adverse business history.
Following are the common criteria for state or territory sponsored applicants which are prerequisites before applying, except for the Business Talent (Sponsored) Subclass 132.
- English language ability not required.
- Age must be above 45 years but less than 55 years.
- Show sponsorship by a state or territory.
- Show commitment to business / investment in Australia.
- Undergo medical checkups.
- No adverse business history.
State or Territory Sponsored Business Owner Subclass 163 For applying this subclass visa, in addition to the above common criteria the applicant must meet the following business attributes for 2 out of the last 4 years before the lodgment of the application.
- Show overall success in business.
- Show minimum turnover of $ 300,000 with ownership in main business or have employed for 4 years in a senior management role where the business turnover is at least $ 1 million per annum.
- Show minimum business & personal assets of $ 250,000 along with net value assets which helps to settle in Australia.
State or Territory Sponsored Senior Executive Subclass 164 For applying this subclass visa, in addition to the above common criteria the applicant must meet the following business attributes for 2 out of the last 4 years before the lodgment of the application.
- Must be employed in one of the top 3 levels of management of a major business with Aus $ 10 million annual turnover.
- Must be responsible for strategic policy development in the business.
- Show minimum of $ 250,000 personal and business assets.
- Must have a sufficient net value asset that helps to settle in Australia.
State or Territory Sponsored Investor Subclass 165 For applying this Subclass visa, in addition to the above common criteria the applicant must also meet the following business attributes before the lodgment of the application.
- Show overall success in investment or business activity.
- Show at least 3 years direct management of 1 or more qualifying business or eligible investments.
- Show at least 10% ownership in the qualifying business, or net value of managed investments of at least $ 750,000 for 1 year.
- Show personal and business assets of at least $ 1.125 million.
BUSINESS SKILLS (SPONSORED & UNSPONSORED) PERMANENT RESIDENCE PROGRAMS When a Business Skill Temporary Visa holder in any of the above subclass visas has established the required level of business for a minimum period of 2 years or maintained his/her designated investment for 4 years is then eligible to file an application for the Business Skills Permanent Residence visa. Business Owner (Permanent Residence) Subclass 890 For applying this subclass visa, the applicant must meet the following onshore business and personal attributes before the application is lodged.
- Show the hold of ownership interest for at least 2 years.
- Show net value assets in the main business of at least $ 100,000 in the 12 months.
- Show annual turnover of at least $ 300,000 in the 12 months.
- Have employed 2 full time staff throughout the 12 months.
- Must show net business and personal assets of minimum $ 250,000 in the 12 months.
- Must stay in Australia for 12 months in the last 2 years.
Investor (Permanent Residence) Subclass 891 For applying this subclass visa, the applicant must meet the following onshore business and personal attributes before the application is lodged.
- Must show maintenance of their designated investment for 4 years.
- Show commitment to maintain business or investment activity in Australia.
- Have no adverse business history.
- Must stay for 2 years in Australia in the last 4 years.
State or Territory Sponsored Business Owner (Permanent Residence) Subclass 892 For applying this subclass visa, the applicant must meet the following onshore business and personal attributes before the application is lodged.
- Hold the ownership interest for at least 2 years.
- Hold minimum assets of $ 75,000 for at least 2 years.
- Show minimum annual turnover of $ 200,000 for at least 1 year.
- Have employed one full time staff for at least 12 months.
- Show minimum personal and business assets of $250,000.
- Have no adverse business history.
- Must stay for 12 months period in Australia in the last 2 years.
State or Territory Sponsored Investor (Permanent Residence) Subclass 893 For applying this subclass visa, the applicant must meet the following onshore business and personal attributes before the application is lodged.
- Must show maintenance of their designated investment for 4 years.
- Show commitment in maintaining a business of investment in Australia.
- Have no adverse business history.
- Must stay for 2 years in Australia in the last 4 years.
